Using martinis as a metaphor, we take an intimate look into the lives of extraordinary people.
Name: Lisa P. Wales
Profession: Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer
What stirs your passion? I love working with people to help them achieve their goals. Sometimes the goal is big: preparing for a knee replacement surgery, sometimes it is smaller: picking up a golf ball without using a golf ball claw. Sometimes it just gaining confidence in yourself, feeling good and pushing yourself farther then you thought you could. To be a part of all of that is incredibly rewarding. I also love the people I have met through working at Leap. They have become like family to me.
What has shaken your faith? Social Media. I am deeply disappointed that people continue to hide behind their keyboards and be so rude to one another. But then I see a story where a Military Mom/Dad surprises their kids when returning home from deployment and my faith in humanity is restored and I am crying happy tears.
Who (dead or alive) would you like to have a martini with? Will Ferrell. Huge celebrity crush on him. Maybe he will see this?
What’s your poison? (The trait you most deplore in yourself?) My hair! I have always had really thick, curly hair. But as I have gotten older I have found a new appreciation for a full head of hair. I guess my Mom was right…
What do you see as the ultimate buzzkill? This is a tough one. Sometimes life just isn’t fair and you can’t make sense of it. I wish I had a good answer for this, but the truth is there are ups and downs, good times and bad times. I think the people who can roll with things have it figured out, I am not always there! Also, last summer Starbucks discontinued my favorite drink, the cool lime refresher. This is a “champagne troubles” kind of buzz kill.
How do you want to be remembered when the glasses are raised? As someone who was kind, grateful, a good friend, hard-working and humble.
What’s your happy place? Fells Pond in Mashpee, MA with my family. Fells pond is a short walk from my parent’s house in the Cape–spending the day swimming there with my family in the summer is simply the best.
What is your signature drink? (We’d love to know what you like to drink, but what we REALLY want to know is what is your favorite expression or motto?) I am a Chardonnay Gal. I love La Crema. Boring, but true. Once last summer I was having a rough afternoon and my daughter (14 at the time) texted my husband to pick up some La Crema to help with my bad mood. He came home with a case. In all seriousness, this is not my saying, but I really love it: Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
